2015 Word

For the last few years I've chosen a word to serve as my mantra for the new year. Inspired by From Chaos Comes Happiness, this trend takes over the internet as each December turns into January.

In the past I've chosen words such as "love" and "bold" and they have served me well, even if I didn't always use them to the fullest potential.

This year, I've struggled to choose between two words, "God" and "me". Quite the dichotomy.  Therefore, this year, I am choosing a phrase- "God in me."

I want to focus on internalizing the lessons I've been learning about who God created me to be. For me, this is a year of self-discovery. I want to discover and live out my purposes. I want my faith to shine through me and I want to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit within.

I want to perpetually invite God in me, to guide me and guard me. I want to live knowing that He is within and that He would delight in my actions.

I've started reading A Purpose Driven Life, loaned to me by a coworker, and it's been very inspirational. If you haven't read it before I suggest checking it out. It's meant to be read day by day but I've been stretching it out further, letting the ideas mellow and meld into my mind and heart.

I see this a bold new year filled with love and learning and I'm ready to embrace the adventure of discovering God in me.

Do you choose a word of the year? What did you choose this year?

July Bookworm Bookclub: Written in My Own Heart's Blood

This is the 8th book in the Outlander series written by Diana Gabaldon.

When I first started reading this series, I almost stopped after the first book. I thought the Scottish accent was too heavy handed and that it interrupted the flow of the story.

Ah, the story. I was captivated by the story of a time traveling woman who fell in love with a Highlander after just being reunited with her newlywed husband.

And so I kept reading. And kept reading. And here I am writing a review of the book that I read on my Nook the very first day it was available. Because now I think I'm kind of  addicted.

These books aren't mysteries, or historical fiction or romance or fantasy. They are pieces of each genre expertly woven together to make a wonderful, interesting, completely enthralling novel.

And the 8th book fits right in with the rest of the series. I absolutely love how Gabaldon is able to weave together a cohesive story using so many character perspectives, even when the characters are often located in different times.

If you haven't read this series before I highly recommend that you start with the first book,   Outlander, and work your way through. Like tomorrow.

If you've read the books, I highly recommend a trip to the Scottish Highlands.  The scenery is so amazing. None of my pictures do it justice.

May 2014 W&W Bookworm Book Club

I love to watch Swamp People because I enjoy listening to their accents and learning about their down to earth way of life near the bayou.

That's exactly what I got when I read Under the Sassafras by Hattie Mae. Mae truly captured the essence of both the place and the people.

Under the Sassafras is the story of a widow and her children who come across a mystery man in the swamp. The story takes places as the family falls in love with the man struggling to reclaim his memory.

Under the Sassafras is part mystery, romance and place story. Give it a whirl. You'll love it. I know I did.
